“Diabetes: Protect your family”
Paradip, (INS): The “World Diabetes Day-2019” with the theme “Diabetes: Protect your family” was observed at PPT Hospital on 14.11.2019. Shri Rinkesh Roy, Chairman, PPT, inaugurated the program in the presence of Smt. Subhalaxmi Roy, President, Paradip Ladies Club and other HoDs.
Shri Roy flagged off a Walkathon, organized on this occasion to create awareness on diabetes & its complications among the denizens of the Port township. People from various quarters of life, like doctors, paramedical staff, HoDs, CISF personnel, Trade Union Leaders, Employees & Pensioners, and public participated in it with much enthusiasm.
At present, 463 million adults are living with diabetes worldwide. Current projections show 700 million adults will be living with diabetes by 2045. Diabetes affects all age groups, regardless of geography and income. It is impacting families worldwide. A healthy lifestyle can help prevent type 2 diabetes and early diagnosis and uninterrupted access to appropriate care can avoid or delay life-threatening complications in people with the condition.
On this occasion, eminent consultants of Corporate Hospitals of Bhubaneswar conducted clinics for the screening of diabetes & its complications with the help of blood sugar test, tests for Retinopathy and Neuropathy; and provided required advice. People were screened for High Blood Pressure. ECG test was conducted to know the heart ailments. Exhibition to create awareness on diet suitable to diabetics changing the dietary habits was held. A clinic on Rheumatic diseases was also conducted. Besides this, a seminar was conducted for doctors and medical staff. Many Pharmaceutical Firms and PICTPL got associated with PPT Hospital in conducting the events.
Dr. Durga Prasad Sethy, Dy. CMO and Dr. L.Padhuria, Sr. Medical Officer co-ordinated all the events with help from all the staff of the PPT Hospital and Electrical & Mechanical Department of PPT. A total 270 numbers of people were screened on the occasion, out of which, 19 new cases of Diabetes & 15 new cases of Hypertension were detected. The Paradip Port Trust is conducting such types of community awareness programs regularly as welfare measures. It goes without saying that the Port Trust does not only interested in business, but also takes care of the health of public, apart from its own beneficiaries.
